Virginia voters are lining up to elect a new governor in what's become a bitter race. But political analysts say it's about more than the two candidates, it's also a referendum on the leadership of President Donald Trump. SOUNDBITE: CHRIS INGRAM, DEMOCRATIC VOTER, SAYING: 8:31:45 "We don't like he's doing." But despite the latest polls showing Democrat Ralph Northam with a slight edge over Republican Ed Gillespie, GOP strategists say the race is tightening The outcome of the governor's race will offer an early test of Trump's political clout and clues about the country's overall political mood....particularly in Democratic strongholds like Arlington. SOUNDBITE: NINA BOTOS, DEMOCRATIC VOTER, SAYING: 8:34:09 "I am a little nervous about the direction the Republican party is heading and so it definitely made me a little more motivated to vote." A win by Gillespie would be the latest in a series of setbacks for Democrats who have lost four contested congressional special elections earlier this year. Democrats fear such a victory would give Republicans greater momentum heading into next year's midterm elections when all seats in the House and 33 seats in the Senate will be up for grabs.
