' search for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has gathered pace and report in The Economic Times suggest the Bengaluru-based IT services company's former executives BG Srinivas and Ashok Vemuri are in the race. The company is also mulling creation of a deputy CEO post to ensure smooth working of the management.
Vishal Sikka, the ex-CEO, had resigned from the company in August this year after a lengthy boardroom battle with the company's co-founder Narayana Murthy.
Post Sikka's resignation, co-founder Nandan Nilekani had returned as the non-executive chairman.
Infosys Nominations Committee and global executive search firm Egon Zehnder -- tasked with finding a new CEO for the tech giant -- have been actively pursuing Vemuri over the last two weeks, a previous report said.
Vemuri is the current CEO of Xerox Business Services and has previously headed iGATE Corp, which was acquired by Capgemini.
Srinivas is currently the Group-Managing Director at PCCW Ltd. Previously, he was a president at Infosys and left the company in 2014.
Infosys has interviewed other executives including candidates from Oracle and Google. The company is also looking at internal talents including interim CEO UB Pravin Rao and Presidents - Ravi Kumar S and Mohit Joshi.
However, it is not an easy ride for the company.
"The problem in Infosys is that the company is seen as having multiple power centres. While Nilekani has acceptance, he is seen as a founder. The board, which was redone recently, has older and new members who have seen the turmoil over several management changes," a company executive told ET.
Besides this, many candidates also want assurance of non-interference from the founders, he added.
Srinivas and Vemuri did not reply to mails sent by ET.
