Coimbatore: After a hint from Prime Minister Narendra Modi that GST rates would be changed, industrialists from the city on Tuesday placed their requests for specific changes to the principal chief commissioner of GST, CP Rao.
He assured the industrialists that their requests will be taken up and discussed in detail before placing them in front of the council.
"We have set up GST seva kendras at every division and have attempted to address the queries of people. I am happy that our officers are able to speak to industrialists in person to address their concerns," said Rao.
State general secretary of BJP Vanathi Sreenivasan, who is also the representative of the Centre in the meeting, said the Union government will look into the requests from the city industrialists with regard to GST. "We intend to help some small-scale industries that were on the verge of closure," she said.
President of TiE G Karthikeyan said, "There are two major concerns. One is that why should an individual suffer if one of the suppliers is not paying tax regularly. This stops us from claiming input tax credit."
President of Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association V Sundaram said, "The increase in the revenue bracket for composition scheme from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore is a welcome change. But, unless the Centre brings both job work and services under the scheme, it will not be useful for small and micro industries."
