The existing traffic islands, which have become a hindrance for the smooth flow of traffic in various parts of Karimnagar town, would be reduced and resized, said Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad.

However, the bottleneck at the Karimnagar one town police station would be removed by converting the Idgah into traffic island by creating a road from the existing Kala Bharathi for smooth passage of traffic, he maintained. District Welfare Officer Sharada and others were present.

To a query about installation of traffic signals at the islands, he said that they would examine it after resizing the islands. With regard to the proposed week-long child rights protection week, he said that the authorities have chalked out various programmes to educate the people about the importance of child rights protection by organizing rallies, grama sabhas, marathon walk and kala jathas, among others.

He said that they would set up a permanent Nirbhaya Centre in Sapthagiri Colony in Karimnagar town for rehabilitation of the victims of sexual violence. Presently, the Nirbhaya Centre was functioning from government headquarters hospital in the town.
