The Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) has requested the Centre to reduce rates on their products for the betterment of the industry.

ISLE President Dilip Kumbhat said they urged for reduction of rates for solar system components and LED lamps to five per cent and revisit to patchup pitfalls by restructuring and adopting proper mechanism between organised and unorganised sectors and help the industry survive.

Though fixing at 12 per cent on LEDs are in line with climate change and ensuring higher illumination through less energy consumption, fixing of on fluorescent tubular lamps and compact fluorescent lamps 'looks exorbitant,' he said.

Stating that the CFL lights are still used in most households in rural and urban areas, he said in a statement that the spike in could be fixed to 12 per cent as it would take time for consumers to shift to LED.

"The use of tubelights are very common in rural areas and for an economical source of lighting the should be brought down to 12 per cent (from 18 per cent)", he said.

The sub-classification of products in various categories leads to confusion and lacks clarity,Kumbhat said.
