Setting up a knowledge haven

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School at Attingal can now boast of a student-friendly library and reading room. NSS volunteers of the school designed the library as the existing facility was not enough to meet the demands of one of the largest public schools in the state. There are over 600 students in 10 divisions for the higher secondary itself.

The library has been stacked with 450 books collected from students and public. There are books on current affairs, fiction and preparatory material for medical and engineering entrance examinations.
Students, Sreelekshmi K Binu and P S Soorya, made the wall art and Sijo Dev created a logo for the library. The reading room has been named ‘Aksharadeepam’. It can accommodate 30 students. A CCTV camera has been installed to ensure monitoring. 

“A membership fee of Rs 10 will be collected from the students. The students are planning to get internet connection for the library,” said NSS Program Officer of the school, Manoj. Poet Kuripuzha Sreekumar inaugurated the library. The inaugural function was attended by state coordinator of NSS Jacob John, Municipal Chairman M Pradeep, poet Vijayan Palazhi, PTA President S Shajahan, head master Muralidharan, VHSE principal Haseena and HSS principal Preetha K C.
