Narendra Modi in Chennai today to mark anniversary of Tamil daily Dina Thanthi: Might meet DMK's Karunanidhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Chennai on Monday to participate in the 75th anniversary celebrations of Tamil daily Dina Thanthi, said state BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Modi is expected to arrive at around 10 am and will return to New Delhi the same day.

According to Newstodaynet.com, Modi will be received by Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Later, the prime minister will leave by helicopter and reach INS Adyar, where he will be received by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy.

According to the report, the chief minister and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam are likely to brief the prime minister about the damage caused across by rains due to the heavy rains and seek a relief amount. "Modi will then proceed to Madras University Centenary Hall at 10.30 am to preside over the 75th anniversary celebrations of Tamil daily Dina Thanthi, where Banwarilal, Palaniswamy and Panneerselvam would participate," it added.

According to TV reports, Modi might even meet DMK chief K Karunanidhi, however, there was no official confirmation.

Security has been beefed up ahead of Modi's visit. Union minister of state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan inspected the arrangements at the airport on Sunday, Soundararajan told IANS.

Newstodaynet.com said that over 10,000 policemen have been posted in the city and traffic diversions have been made at Marina.

According to the website, the prime minister will also attend the wedding of an IAS officer's daughter in Chennai on Monday. The officer, TV Somanathan, works in the Prime Minister's Office, it was reported.

A consultation meeting with local BJP leaders is also on the cards before returns to Delhi.
