Nagpur: Mahametro has sent the trial run results of 5.2km at grade section to Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Lucknow. The RDSO officials had told Mahametro that if they find the results satisfactory, they may not come to Nagpur for verification of data. RDSO is a ministry of railways undertaking that tests new railway projects.
A source in Mahametro said that the agency officials had been conducting oscillation trial since past one month. "We have fitted an oscillation monitoring system (OMS) in one of the coaches. It measures the oscillation when the train moves. So far, all the results have been within stipulated limits, which means that our track is okay," he added.
The source further said the coaches had been leased from Hyderabad Metro and hence there was no need to test them again. "Their testing has already been done by RDSO in Hyderabad," he added.
If the RDSO is satisfied with Mahametro's oscillation test results, it will issue an interim certificate. Armed with this certificate, Mahametro will approach the commissioner of Metro rail safety (CMRS) for final go ahead.
Mahametro officials have already approached CMRS, who is likely to come to Nagpur in last week of November. CMRS will check all the aspects of Nagpur Metro's at grade section including the three Metro stations. After CMRS gives the green signal, Mahametro will start commercial operation in December end.
Mahametro officials are working day and night on completing the three stations — Khapri, New Airport and Airport South — by this month's end. The basic structure is ready and interiors are being readied.
The Metro agency officials are aware that Khapri to Airport South stretch of Nagpur Metro will not attract any passenger traffic. Nagpurians will use the Metro for joyrides. The Metro will ply for passenger traffic only during morning and evening. In the afternoon, the track will be used to ferry materials for the track atop the viaduct from Airport South to Sitabuldi. This stretch will become operational by November 2018. Mahametro expects real passenger traffic to start in this stretch. Work is going on at a fast pace on Hingna depot to Subhash Nagar elevated section, which is to be commissioned in June next year.
