After Bareilly Ki Barfi, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari ‘is looking forward’ to direct a film on Kabaddi

Ashwini Iyer feels realistic filmmakers are finally getting a chance as audience is now responding well to fearless stories.

Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has never failed to impress the audience with her concept-driven yet entertaining cinema. The director, who received accolades for her 2017 release Bareilly Ki Barfi, is now prepping up to recreate her magic at the theaters and this time she has chosen to make a film on sports. Yes, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari will be directing a movie based on Kabaddi, which would be produced by Fox Star Studios.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#NilBatteySannata and #BareillyKiBarfi director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari to direct a movie based on Kabaddi… Fox Star Studios to produce.”

Talking to indianexpress.com, Ashwiny said, “I am totally looking forward to tell this story with like minded producers in Fox Star. We haven’t locked the cast yet, will do it eventually. The film should go on floors sometime next year, depending on everything falling into place.”

Well, it would be interesting to see who she would pick as her lead actors. Ashwini’s recent release, Bareilly Ki Barfi starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao. The film portrayed a small town love story for which all three actors received immense praise. In fact, Amitabh Bachchan had personally sent a token of love and appreciation for all three actors.

It would be interesting to see if Ashwini’s next film on Kabaddi will weave the same magic as her husband Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal did at the box office.
