The Renault Captur is the flagship offering from Renault India and is positioned above the Renault Duster in the company's Indian line-up. It's based on the same platform as the Duster and pack the same petrol and diesel engines.

Renault Captur compact SUV has finally launched in India today and we have all the highlights from the launch event here. The new compact SUV is positioned just above the existing Renault Duster in Renault India's line-up and is the company's flagship offering for India, priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 13.88 lakh. The prices are introductory and the Captur will be on display at all Renault showroom from today. We have driven the car and have already shared our first impressions along with a lot of other details. All that is left to know is the price and variant classification of the Renault Captur and that we'll know today.

Bookings for the Renault Captur commenced in late September 2017 and by mid October the company had already started dispatching the car to its 300+ showrooms across India. In India, the new Renault Captur SUV competes with the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta and we have already told you where they stand against each other on paper.

After Renault announced the prices, we did fear for a bit that the Captur might eat into the Duster's sales. When asked Renault India, the company said - "Wherever Renault has Launched the Capture, the Duster has already been present. The company hasn't seen any cannibalisation yet."

As we had speculated at the beginning of today's live updates, Renault India will launch an automatic version of the Renault Captur in near future. It will most probably come with a CVT option.

About 70 - 75 per cent parts used in the making of the Renault Captur have been locally sourced and Renault India says that it is working towards increasing localisation to 80 per cent.

Renault has launched the new Captur SUV in India priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh for the base petrol RXE model, going up to Rs. 13.88 lakh for the top-end Platine diesel variant.

Petrol: Rs. 9.99 lakh - Rs. 11.69 lakh

Even in terms of dimension, the Captur is similar to the Duster, measuring 4329 mm in length, 1813 mm in width and 1619 mm in height . It's slightly longer than the Duster, while being narrower and shorter in height. The wheelbase, however, is same as the Duster at 2673 mm and so does the ground clearance at 210 mm.

At the rear, the Renault Captur comes with quite a simple design with wraparound LED taillamps, sculpted tailgate, roof-mounted spoiler, beefy plastic cladded bumper with chrome accents and a fat skid plate.

From the sides the Renault Captur looks more like a crossover than an SUV, at least from the lower section. But to counter that, Renault has given it class leading ground clearance of 210 mm with stylish alloy wheels, wheel arch and underbody cladding, and bold character lines to bring out that SUV DNA.
