Auto driver held for harassing lady cop

SURAT: Mahidharpura police arrested a 19-year-old rickshaw driver for allegedly harassing a 27-year-old traffic brigade woman employee when she was on duty.

The accused Yashin Chakur Kabra had grabbed her hand near a crowded crossroad near Surat railway station when she asked him to clear the place to make way for traffic.

Kabra, a resident of Chowk Bazaar, was arrested following a complaint by the woman. She was on duty at Ayurvedi College Crossroad near the railway underbridge on Friday morning when she noticed the rickshaw wrongly parked and obstructing the traffic. She instructed Kabra to clear the area but he entered into an argument and started abusing her. Kabra used foul language against the woman jawan and escaped from the spot with his rickshaw before she could take action.

After sometime, he returned to the spot and grabbed her hand in full public view. He started threatening the woman and hurled expletives at her. Seeing him misbehave with the woman, locals gathered there and nabbed Kabra. They took him to Mahidharpura police station where he was booked for the offence.


"Initially, the woman did not lodge complaint about harassment but she again approached police on Saturday and provided details about the ordeal," said police.


Kabra was booked under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage modesty of a woman) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace)


In past too, , incidents of rickshaw drivers misbehaving and humiliating men and women traffic cops and brigade employees have been reported.
