
New Delhi: Announcing the Best Urban Transport Practices awards on Monday, the union ministry for urban development adjudged Surat as the city with best city bus service for attracting 87% of private vehicles and autorickshaw users toward the public transportation.
Karnataka’s Mysuru city won the best non-motorised transport award for its public bicycle sharing, while Kochi won the best urban transport initiative award for fastest completion of its integrated metro rail. The awards were announced on the concluding day of the three-day urban mobility conference-cum-exhibition at Hyderabad.
The other award winners included H-TRIMS of Hyderabad for best intelligent transport project; Chittor for improving road safety by introducing ‘no helmet-no petrol’ policy for two wheelers, Andaman for introducing special bus services for women and Madhya Pradesh for commendable urban mass transit initiative for implementing cluster-based bus transit system.
