THANE: A civil works contractor was found dead in his car with three gunshot injuries to the chest in Thane on Sunday evening. The deceased, Sanket Jadhav (36), was found lying in the driver's seat, his neck tilted towards the left. The left side of the white shirt that Jadhav had been wearing was heavily blood-soaked. A revolver was found tossed right beside him in the car, said the police.
The car was parked in Gaimukh locality around 6.30pm.The police said that it appeared to be a case of suicide.
Deputy Commissioner of police Sunil Lokhande told TOI that three shots had been fired in Jadhav's chest from close range. The police have retrieved the revolver, for which Jadhav had a licence, said Lokhande.
"The car engine was whirring and the air-conditioner was running when Jadhav's body was discovered. It seems he fired three rounds in his chest," said a police officer.
A note, which was purportedly written by Jadhav , was found in the car, said a police officer. "The brief note has been addressed to his wife, Vidya. It offers an explanation that Jadhav was resorting to suicide as his business was not doing too well and he had incurred huge losses, leading to depression," said the officer.
Jadhav , a resident of Panchpakhadi, undertook projects for Thane Municipal Corporation.
The note, written in Marathi, seeks forgiveness from the wife for not honouring the commitment of marriage. "The note says: `It feels like I've lost [in life]... But let there be no misunderstanding. No one should be blamed'," said the police officer.
Though the police have not yet spoken to Jadhav's family, the officer said that financial stress mentioned in the note could have prompted Jadhav to end his life. Jadhav is survived by his wife and a five-year-old son. The entire family stayed with his elder brother.
The body was sent for an autopsy to Thane Civil hospital. An accidental death report has been filed at Kasarwadavli police station.
