Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation is all set to task Urban Mass Transit Company Ltd (UMTC) with carrying out a survey for on-street and off-street parking across the city. NMC will hire the central government agency for Rs70 lakh excluding GST. The proposal for this will be tabled before the standing committee meeting on November 7.
Sources said the NMC had prepared a parking policy and categorized the city into three zones — mobility, business core district (BCD) and mixed. Mobility zone will cover metro rail corridors, 24 metre wide roads and all national and state highways passing through the city. BCD will cover city's eight commercial areas including Sadar, Sitabuldi, Congress Nagar, Mahal, Itwari, Lakadganj, Dharampeth and Ganeshpeth. The mixed zone will cover areas not included in either mobility or BCD zones, sources said.
NMC's traffic department has prepared the proposal to appoint UMTC for the purpose. As per the proposal, Nagpur Improvement Trust is supposed to bear 50% of the cost to be incurred. Sources said NMC intended to complete the survey in five months. Payment will be made in four instalments, first upon submission of inception report, second on submission of concept plan, third on submission of draft final report and fourth on submission of final report.
The committee will consider 16 other proposals too. Public works department has put up a proposal to empower the chief engineer to restore the status of road contractors blacklisted for substandard works. NMC had blacklisted nine such contractors. One of them — Amrita Constructions— carried out remedial measures as directed by the standing committee and hence administration wanted committee to restore its registration. Administration also wants to empower the chief engineer to provide relief to other contractors if they carried out remedial measures.
The tax department has sought panel's nod to empower municipal commissioner Ashwin Mudgal to fix rates for auction of property of tax defaulters.
