Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is likely to announce the launch of the rumoured Xiaomi Mi 6C sometime next month.

The detail that stands out about the Mi 6C is the fact that the device will be powered by Xiaomi’s custom in-house SoC known as the Surge S2. Mi 6C is likely to be the successor for the Mi 5C that was announced earlier this year in February.
Similar to the Mi 6C, the 5C packed the company’s in-house SoC, the Surge S1. According to a report by GizmoChina, the device is likely to be launched alongside the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The company is expected to launch the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus later this week. The new report points that Mi 6C is likely to be a mid-range device like the Mi 5C. One thing to note here is that this is not the first time that details about Mi 6C and Surge S2 have surfaced on the internet.

As reported previously, Xiaomi is likely to use the 16 nm TSMC process to build the Surge S2. The new SoC would use a 16nm TSMC manufacturing process along with the same octa-core architecture as the Surge S1. For perspective, the Surge S1 features eight ARM Cortex A53 cores built on the 28 nm process including four cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and the remaining four at 1.4 GHz.
On the specifications front, the Xiaomi Mi 6C is likely to be a lighter and watered-down version of the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6. The device is likely to pack a 12 MP camera module on the back along with a 5 MP camera module on the front. As reported earlier, Xiaomi has decided to pack 4 GB RAM along with 64 GB internal storage with the device. The company is also planning to launch a second variant of the device with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage.
