Two days after the station controller of Vijayanagar metro station was detained by the city police, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. Employees’ Union has threatened to protest against the police and the management.
On Friday, a little after 11 p.m., after receiving a complaint from a resident about “loud” music and announcements, the police detained the station controller on duty.
‘Unauthorised manner’
Union vice-president Suryanarayana Murthy told The Hindu that the police not only entered the metro station but also detained the station controller in an unauthorised manner.
“The station controller was detained by the police for over an hour after which he was let go, but only after the Assistant Security Officer spoke to the police and submitted a letter,” Mr. Murthy claimed.
However, the Vijaynagar police said that the control room had received from not one but 15 residents who were getting disturbed by the high decibel music and announcement. “No arrests were made,” the inspector said.
BMRCL spokesperson U.A. Vasanth Rao denied these allegations and said metro authorities had written to the city police about the incident.
“We have a cordial relationship with the police. We have sought an enquiry into this incident,” he said.
