JAIPUR: Celebrations and festivities marked the city's Vaishali Nagar area on Sunday.

Chitrakoot Stadium, where the main event-Swar Govind Samaroh-was held, was decorated with saffron flags. Colorful 'rangolis' were drawn along the 6km route for the march by RSS 'ghosh vadaks'. This changed the appearance of the entire area.

Possibly for the first time in the city, a grand reception was given to an event hosted by RSS and witnessed by a huge crowd of women and children. The main attraction was the 'ghosh' (musical band) which captivated the audience for hours. The band marched from two directions, Shyam Nagar-Chitrakoot and Rajendra Nagar-Chitrakoot, and received a rousing applause from the people. Local residents greeted them with flowers and sprinkling rose water.

Karuna Chaudhary, a resident of Chitrakoot, participated in making 'rangolis' with her three-year-old son Kush on Saturday and attended the programme on Sunday as well. "RSS workers requested families from our locality to create colourful rangolis. Along with other ladies from my locality, we painted the main road. We also attended the main programme with musical bands and heard Bhagwatji speak," she said.

Initially, families of RSS workers had participated in the making 'rangolis' along the 6km stretch. But soon, they were joined by youngsters and women from the area.

Kuldeep Gaur, sampark pramuk, RSS Vaishali Nagar, said he was overwhelmed by the attendance of families. "The programme was devised to attract families. Our cadre had approached families to attend the programme," Gaur said, adding that people came in large numbers despite the event being organized on a Sunday and this being the marriage season.

He estimated that around 40,000 people, including a sizeable number of women, attended the event.

Garima Sen, a housewife of a RSS volunteer, attended the RSS programme for the first time. For years, I have only heard about RSS shakhas and their exercises. My husband attends them regularly. My son, who is in Class XI, performed with the band today," she said.
