Unidentified gunmen today opened fire at a police team manning a check post, killing two policemen in northwest Pakistan's Mardan district.
The policemen, who were on duty at Shagonaka check post, tried to stop a car but the unidentified occupants of the vehicle opened fire on them, killing two of them, police said.
The victims were identified as Farhad and Muhammad Nawar.
One of them died at the spot while the other succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, police said.
The incident occurred at Shago Naka check post Shergarh in Mardan district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Police began a search operation in the surrounding area to track down the attackers.
