COIMBATORE: A 47-year-old Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus driver on Saturday saved the lives of at least 40 passengers on a packed bus after going into cardiac arrest near Mettupalayam.
Officials said quoted doctors as saying R Chinnasamy, attached to the Mettupalayam TNSTC depot in Coimbatore, probably braved intense pain even as he started to lose brain function. But he defied death for long enough to park the bus by the side of the road before collapsing on the steering wheel.
"Chinnasamy informed Saravanakumar, the bus conductor, that he was feeling nauseous as the bus approached Anupparpalayam around 9 am," an official said. "He struggled to prevent the vehicle from crashing and managed to slow down." By the time an ambulance came, Chinnasamy had died.
