A Central Silk Board employee was shot dead last night and another was injured by an alleged car lifter in a clash between them over gambling in Jorhat district, police said today.
According to police officials, the Central Silk Board staff along with his friends reached Jamuguri village for a gambling session last night during which a quarrel broke out with an alleged car lifter over some issues.
The car lifter, who was also playing with them, pulled out a pistol and shot at the two persons, killing one on the spot and injuring the other.
The deceased has been identified as Pradip Gogoi (45) and the injured as Kilai, who received injury in his leg.
Police are continuing search operation to nab the culprit.
