GHAZIABAD:The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) chairman Bhure Lal on Saturday surveyed Sahibabad Industrial Area and Kaushambi township in the backdrop of rising pollution levels in the area.

During the survey, officials from Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC), UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) and district pollution board were in full attendance and Bhure Lal issued a series of directions to curb the pollution.

B C Rastogi, member of Kaushambi Apartments Residents Welfare Association (KARWA), who was part of the survey team said, "In the presence of officials from various departments, EPCA chairman issued a number of directions, prominent being replacing the diesel buses with CNG ones and floor tiling of Kaushambi bus depot to reduce dust pollution. He also suggested that a foot-over bridge connecting Anand Vihar railway station and Kaushambi bus depot be constructed for the benefit of pedestrians."

The EPCA chairman pulled up officials during his visit to Sahibabad Industrial area after he found garbage strewn all over. He has given GMC and UPSIDC a time period of 15 days to clear the roadside garbage, failing which action will be taken against them. "The EPCA chairman during his last visit had suggested some measures to clear the drains and garbage to which we had complied with but still lot of work was left. As a result, he asked us to finish the pending work," said C P Singh, municipal commissioner.

GDA's chief town planner Ishtiaq Ahmed who had accompanied Bhure Lal in his survey said that they were instructed to clear construction debris which he said is one of the prime reason for dust pollution in the area.

The EPCA had recently identified Sahibabad as one of the most polluted areas in NCR and since then have been goading authorities to clamp down on polluting industries. The chairman's Saturday visit was among a series of his visits to the area he has undertaken in recent times to ensure there is a compliance of EPCA's orders.
