Nagpur: With an aim to spread communal harmony, Jamat-E-Islam Hind (North West) organized a Diwali Milan programme at Hanuman Mandir, Old Mankapur, on Saturday. Many prominent personalities attended the event.

Earlier, on the same day, the members of the Jamat-E-Islam Hind had organized a cleanliness drive at Hanuman Mandir, Old Mankapur, to mark the celebrations in a unique way.

While addressing the gathering at the event, Mithilesh Tripathi, police inspector, Mankarpur police station, said, "Diversity is the backbone of our country. Every Indian is equal when it comes to religion. India is an example of unity amid diversity. Such events bridges the gap among the people of different religion."

Sangeeta Girhe, one of the corporators of the area, said, "It is very inspiring to see events being organized in our city, as it promotes peace. The programme opines that celebration of a festival is not limited to just one particular caste or creed but is open for all to come and rejoice."

Another corporator Sakshi Raut added, "Such events rebuilds one's faith in humanity and brings people together. Celebrating a festival gives out the message of communal harmony."

Organizer of the event, Ayyub Khan, said, "The turnout at the event has been very encouraging and we hope we can organize such events in future to spread the message of unity."

Khan added that most people do not realize the real message of Islam and focus on the bad image that is presented before them. "People need to clarify their doubts regarding Islam. The religion spreads the message of love like the other religions and hence people should start focusing on real problems like poverty, illiteracy and other rather than fighting among each other over religion."
