BALJINDER SINGH Bittu was re-elected as the president of Residents Welfare Association (RWA) Sector 21, Chandigarh, after he defeated candidate Vishal Garg Narwana with a margin of 137 votes. While advocate Vishal Garg Narwana secured 493 votes, Bittu got 637 votes. Victory for Bittu comes a day after he along with four others was booked for assault by the Chandigarh Police on the complaint of former FOSWAC chairman PC Sanghi. Sanghi was supporting Vishal Garg Narwana. The incident had taken place on the eve of elections of the Residents Welfare Association (RWA), Sector 21. Sanghi is supporting advocate Vishal Garg Nirwana, who is contesting the post of the president of the RWA-21 against Bittu. Bittu is the chairman of FOSWAC as well.

On Sanghi’s complaint, a case under sections 147, 148, 149, 323 and 506 of the IPC was registered against all of them. The former FOSWAC chairman had claimed that he was assaulted inside returning officer’s house.

On Sunday, a complaint against five persons including Sanghi was made by general secretary of the association. Sanghi told Chandigarh Newsline, “These are just sector polls. Moreover, the entire thing was manipulated. The notification for the polls was made just five to six days back whereas one has to give 15-day time.”

On the complaint, Sanghi added, “It is totally a counter-attack to my complaint against them yesterday.”

Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, Bittu said, “The complaint by Sanghi was only because he wanted to get the elections deferred. It was all planted by him. He was supporting the other candidate and he knew that I had support of majority of people in the sector.”

Listing his priorities, Bittu said that he would work for ensuring proper security in the sector and immediate redressal of civic issues. The elections of RWA became high-stake elections because of the incident on Saturday. The ward of Sector 21 also houses the residence of Mayor Asha Jaswal and other important people of the city.
