Tirupur: The public works department continued its ban on tourists from taking bath in Panchalingam falls at Thirumoorthy hills in Udumalpet taluk on Sunday, as the falls is overflowing.

With the northeast monsoon continuing to lash the hills and its catchment areas, the water flow at the falls in Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) has increased. The PWD banned the bathing on Friday.

Meanwhile, the water level at Thirumoorthy dam stood at 46.92 ft against the total capacity of 60 ft on Sunday. The dam's inflow was 140 cusecs while outflow was 25 cusecs. The water is mainly released from the dam for drinking purpose, said the PWD sources.

Once the water level in the dam reaches around 55 ft, the water would be released for irrigation purpose under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) scheme. As per the schedule, this January, the water should be released to 95,000 acres of agricultural lands coming under Zone IV of the scheme, said the sources.
