Param promises more tickets for women

BENGALURU: KPCC president G Parameshwara said the party was willing to accommodate 33 per cent reservation for women when it came to giving tickets for the upcoming assembly elections. Speaking at the executive meet of the women’s wing on Saturday, Parameshwara said there was a demand for giving more tickets to women. “In the last elections, only 10 women came forward to ask for tickets. If such is the case, we will not be able to do much, so you need to come forward if you think you are capable of winning the seat,” he said.

As of now, the Congress had made it mandatory to have three women in their booth committees. AICC women’s wing president Sushmita Dev took on BJP at the Centre stating that they had no programmes to encourage women. “RSS and BJP are a hundred years behind. They think the way to respect a woman is to give them gas cylinders. They do not want to empower women by giving better representation in politics at the Centre, state or local level. In their minds, women are limited to the kitchen,” she said.

Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, who had earlier said that there was no question of any vindictiveness in the House Committee report on power purchase agreements, took a different stance when asked about the IT raids on him. “All of you know that I have given whatever information required by the IT officials. All details will be made available to you after November 7 and then you decide what you want to discuss. Nobody can make me voiceless,” he said.

Former Minister Rani Satish joked that Shivakumar, who is heading the party’s campaign committee, should give tickets not just to beautiful women, but to all capable women and help them win.

‘Only Cong can defeat Cong’

Congress MLC and actress Jayamala also raised eyebrows when she said, “The Opposition cannot defeat us. Only Congress can defeat Congress. If we stand united, then no one can defeat us. If Siddaramaiah, Parameshwara and Shivakumar fight these elections together, then no one can defeat us,” she cheekily commented.
