Baba Parsekar,Nirmala Gogate to get lifetime achievement award

The government's culture department today announced lifetime achievement awards to scenographer Baba Parsekar and noted vocalist Nirmala Gogate.

The awards will be presented on November 20 at Prabodhankar Thackeray theatre in suburban Borivali.


State cultural minister today announced the selection of awardees.

Parsekar has worked as a scenographer for Marathi theatre. He will be felicitated with the Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Rangbhumi lifetime award.

Gogate will be honoured with the Sangeetacharya Annasaheb Kirloskar Sangeet Rangbhumi lifetime achievement award.

Both the artistes will receive Rs five lakh each, a citation and a memento, as part of the award.

Parsekar worked on about 485 plays during his life. A student of the J J School of Arts, he worked in all streams of theatre, like experimental mainstream and armature, a release issued by the culture department said.

Gogate learnt her early lessons in classical music and performance from Pt Krushnarao Chonkar and B R Devdhar and later worked in some musical plays, including Sanskrit plays as well.
