The Jammu and Kashmir government has prioritised protection and preservation of forests and wildlife by taking up systematic demarcation of forest land, state forest minister Choudhary Lal Singh said today and warned of strict action against encroachers.
Addressing a gathering at a public grievances redressal camp in Kathua, he said efforts are being initiated to preserve ecology and environment of the state.
Vulnerable areas in forests are being demarcated on priority basis and the government is keeping a strict vigil over forests and protected wildlife areas of the state, Singh said.
The minister said forest department officials have been directed not to compromise on the issue of protection of wildlife, environment and ecology of the state.
He also underscored the need for a greater role of the civil society in raising awareness which would help in protecting forests and wildlife.
