A few Apple iPhone X buyers faced activation issues at launch, carriers blame network congestion

Apple’s iPhone X rollout on 3 November yet again saw the familiar queues of people camping and lining up outside Apple Stores around the world.

After the disappointment that was the iPhone 8 launch (Who would queue up for that, right?) it was nice to see that familiar Apple ritual proceed as planned.

The launch wasn’t without its issues however, and initial reports suggest that some users faced activations issues on launch day. While it must have been exceedingly frustrating to have the brand-new iPhone in your hands at launch and not be able to use it, it seems like the issues were simply due to heavy congestion on AT&T networks. As far as we can tell, only devices connecting to the AT&T network in the US were affected for a little while, and even that issue has since been resolved.

9to5Mac reports that several users on their forums were complaining of the issue as well. Some users had to wait several minutes while others found more success via iTunes.

AT&T issued a statement on the matter, saying, “Some of our customers experienced a delay activating their iPhone X. The issue was not specific to our customers and is resolved.”
