Allahabad high court fines DoT Rs 50,000

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the department of telecommunications (DoT) for wrongly implicating and initiating departmental proceedings against an employee, which resulted into denial of promotion and other increments during his service.

The court directed the department to give notional promotion to the applicant, who had retired in 2004.


The court held that the retired employee is entitled to notional benefits of promotion to the post of senior sub-divisional engineer from Februa ry 1998 and promotion to the post of divisional engineer from March 2002.


Hearing a petition filed by the employee, N Ram, a division bench comprising Justice Bharati Sapru and Justice Siddharth directed that he must get the difference of salary on account of denial of promotion and post retirement dues within a month along with 7% interest per annum from the due date of promotion.
