Nagpur: Food enthusiasts showcased their cooking talent with different cuisines and recipes at a Smart Chef Cookery Contest 2017 organized by Venue for You Events at Chitnavis Centre, on Saturday. Over 100 aspiring chefs from different age groups participated in the competition with homemade vegetarian dishes.
The contestants participated in three categories of cuisines — health food, snacks and deserts — providing them a lot of area to endeavour their cooking talents. "Cooking is a hobby for many but can also be used as a tool to start a business. Nagpur is rapidly becoming a market for food lovers. Through this contest we want to lay a platform for budding chefs to showcase their talent as well as learn from others. Recipes at the contest will definitely provide them with innovative ideas about cooking," said Riddhima Pagey, one of the organizers.
Dishes, right from continental to Maharashtrian, were part of the contest. All the dishes were well-decorated compelling everyone to taste them. An expert panel will judge the dishes on the basis of presentation, taste, nutritional values and uniqueness.
"Organizers have provided us with criteria but I will also focus on benefits of food on people's health. Even snacks can be healthy if you use ingredients with nutritional values like calcium, vitamins and others. Presentation plays a vital role in judgment as more attracting the food looks, the more it compels us to taste it," said Jayashree Pendharkar well-known dietician and one of the judges of contest.
Foods with fusions of cuisines were presented at the event. Many dishes with fancy names and different tastes like 'Paneer Parda', 'Smoking Jackpot', Taco Takatak and others were showcased at the contest. 'Sondesh Platter' a Bengali recipe mixed with different ingredients making 13 different sweets was also an eye catcher. "The competition is very tough and many different dishes are showcased here, uniqueness and innovation is the main concept to win the contest," said Alka Deshpande one of the contestants.
Three prizes in each category were provided. Rinky Agrawal, Neelam Kedia and Charu Chendke were the winners in health food, dessert and snacks category respectively.
