RAJKOT: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convenor Hardik Patel on Saturday said that he shook hand with Congress as the ruling BJP did not agree to his community's demand for reservation under the other backward class (OBC) quota.
Addressing a rally of nearly 2,000 people in Dhutarpar, about 42km from Jamnagar, the quota stir leader said, "Congress has accepted our four demands and the fifth demand — which is regarding reservation — the party has promised to reply after internal discussion."
Before his rally in the village, some banners had come up raising questions on Hardik aligning with Congress and claimed it to be an embarrassment for the Patidar community.
The banners with questions directed to Hardik were put up on roadside. "Is Hardik trying to misdirect the reservation movement?" stated one poster. Another banner asked quoting OBC leader Alpesh Thakor, who has recently joined Congress, "Patidars won't get reservation, do you agree with this (Thakor's) statement?"
