Mumbai: Irshad Qureshi, who was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his girlfriend, suspected her of infidelity, investigating officers said on Saturday.
This was a contributing factor in the murder, the police said.
On Friday afternoon, Mr. Qureshi (23) called the police control room from Rajdoot Hotel in Cotton Green, saying that he had murdered his girlfriend, Shahnaz Sheikh. The information was relayed to the Kalachowky police, and a team reached the hotel to find Mr. Qureshi sitting beside her body. He was arrested and charged with murder under the Indian Penal Code.
“Mr. Qureshi has said in his interrogation that apart from having disputes with Sheikh over the profits of the business they ran together, he also suspected that she was cheating on him. On Friday, when they checked into the hotel to discuss their disputes, Mr. Qureshi confronted her and demanded to see her cell phone,” said Senior Police Inspector Dilip Ugale, Kalachowky police station.
Mr. Ugale said Sheikh refused to show him the phone, and wrapped a stole around her neck, threatening to kill herself. A furious Mr. Qureshi allegedly strangled her with the same stole.
“Mr. Qureshi has been calm and composed throughout, and has been recounting all the details of the murder in his interrogation,” Mr. Ugale said.
