The absence of a pedestrian signal at the intersection of Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road and Indira Gandhi Road in Pallavaram makes it difficult for road users to cross the intersection, especially during rush hour. At the intersection, motorists from Indira Gandhi Road proceed towards Thiruneermalai and Chennai International Airport. Also, motorists coming from the eastern side of the national highway NH-45 pass through the intersection.
As per traffic rules and regulations, motorists coming from the eastern side of GST Road must take a U-turn at the intersection of GST Road and Thiruneermalai Road to enter Indira Gandhi Road. Also, motorists coming from Chennai International Airport and Indira Gandhi Road take a u-turn and right turn at the intersection. “The stretch is a crucial intersection connecting Pammal, Pozhicahlur, Anakaputhur and Poonamallee. There is constant flow of traffic through the day. As motorists come in from all directions, crossing the intersection becomes a nightmare for pedestrians,” says S. Vinod, a resident of Pallavaram.
A Chennai Traffic Police official says steps will be taken soon to resolve this issue.
