Quepem: Cuncolim Congress MLA Clafacio Dias, on Friday said he would not fight the next assembly election if deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Sammy Tavares, was willing to foray into politics and contest from the constituency.

Tavares, a well-known name in the state's police force, is equally popular as a tiatr writer and director. Dias made the statement during the diamond jubilee celebration and concluding show of Tavares' tiatr, 'Police Officer', held near the Cuncolim church, on Friday evening.

"Although he is busy with the police department, his immense contribution to the tiatr stage is highly appreciable," the MLA said.
