CHENNAI: Holding true to their name ‘Guardians of Dreams’, has been trying to provide a better lifestyle to children living in shelter homes. Started in 2015, this social start-up has been actively conducting various events and programmes to raise funds for improving living conditions and education for kids at shelter homes in Chennai, Kochi and Bengaluru. It’s back again with yet another funder raiser — Baking Spree, a baking workshop, on November 11 at Hotel Raintree.

Chef Mohammad Muneeb Ansari, pastry chef at Raintree will be facilitating the workshop. “I was part of the same workshop last year and it was successful. So I am expecting the same this year too,” he says.
So what all recipes will he teach that day? “I will be teaching them to bake a Clafoutis (a traditional French baked fruit dessert), Trio Fudge and a Lemon Chiffon Cake. I have also chosen the most simplest way to make these because I want everybody to participate equally and also be able to try it back at home,” he adds.

The organisation conducts several events to raise funds mainly focuses on three areas: Home Improvement (sanitation, hygiene and safety), Scholastic Awards and ID Documentation. “Our events support causes like scholarships for classes 10 and 12 students from shelter homes. We give ID documentation where we provide Aadhar cards and other must-have government documents. We also build and renovate shelter homes,” explains Ajay Vijayakumar, finance head, Guardians of Dreams.

Guardians of Dreams have profiled and chosen 50 shelter homes in the city and the proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for the renovation of two from the list. “We have so far raised about `3 lakh approximately and have been getting good responses from all our events. We are expecting around 100 participants for Breaking Spree as well,” says Neha Tojan, event head, Guardians of Dreams.

Baking Spree will be conducted on November 11 at Hotel Raintree, Anna Salai, from 9 am onwards.
