Cops booked for causing incitement

Rajkot: In surprising development, the officials of Talaja police station, ranging from head constable to assistant sub-inspector stand liable for prosecution after they were booked for allegedly causing incitement by registering protest on social media.


Talaja police station inspector V N Pateliya has booked several officials of the police station under section 3 of Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act, 1922.


"Protesting against the unfulfilled and pending demands with the government, the officials allegedly put black ribbon symbol in their display picture (DP) on the social media sites. They also sent several inciting messages to other policemen on the social media, following which the case has been registered against them," said an official from Talaja police station.


The number of persons booked is yet to be ascertained as the police are investigating which of the officials put up black ribbon symbol in their DP. Apart from putting up the symbol, the officials have also been charged with making outrageous and inciting comments against the police department and the government.
