Nagpur: State director general of police (DGP) Satish Mathur on Saturday said that information of previous crime records of any person is now available on fingertips. He said though rural people don't have internet access and might not use smart phones, they can register complaints through SMS.

He was speaking after inaugurating Police Polyclinic hospital at police headquarters in at Zingabai Takli , which was built for providing better facilities to the cops. The hospital is a brainchild of police commissioner K Venkatesham and DCP (headquarters) Suhas Bawche. There was a small hospital in the same building since 1972.

Venkatesham said the hospital has been built for the city as well as rural police personnel from all units and their respective families. The staffers can get medical treatment free of cost even after retirement, he said.

Mathur suggested that the department should acquire mobile clinics for parents of the cops. While addressing the DCPs, PIs and other staffers, the DGP said the cops should avail the facilities being implemented by the CP to upgrade policing. "They should look after their health to provide best service," he said.

"All police officers aged above 45 years undergo treatment every year in December. The medical reports now will be available in digital e-locker from December 4," he added.

Sources said the hospital has separate laboratories for check-up with high technology machines and equipment. Reputed doctors and experts will visit the hospital daily during a certain time without charging any fees.

To TOI's query regarding the online complaint facility for rural people, the DGP said, "A few people have started using smart phones but don't have net access. Hence, we have provided SMS facility. Locals can send text messages through any mobile phone."

The DGP said there are two websites to get criminal background of any person, including the accused. One is a paid website, while the other has formed under the supervision of the Supreme Court, which has given certain guidelines to the high court to monitor the situation.
