Shahrukh stars on opening day for TN

CHENNAI: M Shahrukh Khan’s unbeaten 118 (153b, 8x4, 5x6) helped Tamil Nadu post 279 for 6 in 90 overs against Gujarat, on the opening day of the fourth round of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy U-23 tournament, played at Lalbhai Contractor stadium, Surat, Gujarat. This is Shahrukh’s second century in the tournament. For the hosts, A Nagwaswalla claimed three wickets. Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 279/6 in 90 ovs (K Mukunth 42, M Shahrukh Khan 118 n.o; A Nagwaswalla 3/63) vs Gujarat.

Zaheer bags title

Zaheer Basha of Reserve Bank of India defeated Riyaz Akbar Ali of Air India 21-15, 22-25, 25-14 in the final of the men’s singles, at the 46th national carrom championship, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru multi-purpose indoor stadium. In the women’s section, Rashmikumari won the top prize by getting the better of Parimal Devi 20-13, 11-25, 22-15 in all-PSPB final. Manu A Baria emerged champion in the veteran men’s section after dominating win against Saleem Akbar Ansari 25-9, 25-16.

Results: Final: (all singles): Men: Zaheer Basha (RBI) bt Riyaz Akbar Ali (Air India) 21-15, 22-25, 25-14. Women: Rashmikumari (PSPB) bt Parimal Devi (PSPB) 20-13, 11-25, 22-15. Veteran: Men: Manu A Baria (Jain Irrigation) bt Saleem Akbar Ansari 25-9, 25-16. Veteran: Women: Shoba Kamath (Maharashtra) bt Mageswari Jagadeesan (Tamil Nadu) 25-5, 25-0.

Velammal Main school, Mogappair basketball team defeated SDAT (Tirunelveli) 75-49 in the boy’s Under-17 final of the 60th Republic Day Games, held at Kongu Engineering College.
