Decision emerges from roundtable on special tag to State

Opposition parties led by the principal opposition party in the Assembly — YSR Congress Party — will stage a demonstration in front of the Assembly on one of the days of the session beginning November 10.

A decision to this effect was taken at a roundtable on “Special Category Status and Vibhajana Hameela Sadhana Samithi” (Committee to fight for bifurcation promises) here on Friday.

Presiding over the conference, A.P. Intellectuals’ Forum president Chalasani Srinivas said that a decision had been taken to organise a “Chalo Assembly” programme. The primary demand was achieving SCS for Andhra Pradesh and also the several benefits and assets promised to the State at the time of bifurcation.

Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K Ramakrishna said roundtable would be organised in all the13 districts of the State and people would be mobilised to participate in the demonstration in front of the Assembly.

YSRCP leaders and former MLAs Malladi Vishnu and Vellampalli Srinivas said SCS was very important for their party. Their party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was going to raise the subject at all the meetings during his upcoming padayatra.

PCC general secretary P. Suri Babu, CPI State assistant secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao and others spoke about the need to organise programmes to achieve SCS. Leaders of various students’ organisations participated in the conference and supported the Chalo Assembly idea.
