The State-run Krishnarajendra Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital in Mysuru on Friday saw less than the usual number of patients for outpatient and in-patient treatment despite the strike by private hospitals.
There was no rush of patients at the hospitals, attached to the Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), following the strike by private hospitals, nursing homes, private practitioners and diagnostic services against the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2007. Radhamani, MMCRI dean and director (in-charge), told The Hindu, “We did not encounter any impact of the strike on our hospitals. The services were normal and there was no heavy rush of patients following it. In fact, the number of patients on Friday was less than on the previous day.”
Anticipating a rush because of the strike, hospitals had geared up to handle the rush but patients’ numbers were fewer, said Dr. Radhamani, who is also the medical superintendent of Cheluvamba Hospital.
K.R. Hospital, one of the largest public healthcare facilities in the region, handled 1,340 outpatients between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. As many as 74 patients got admitted for treatment.
At Cheluvamba, a hospital for women and children, the Obstetrician Department handled 86 outpatients and 17 inpatients while the Paediatrics Department handled 157 outpatients and 25 inpatients. Also, there was no rise in the number of surgeries or increase in the number of emergencies at the hospitals.
