Speaker should quit, says Tiwari

Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of first “degrading the administrative and constitutional set up” of Delhi and now “shaming the legislature and judicial set up” too, the BJP on Friday demanded Assembly Speaker and AAP legislator Ram Niwas Goel’s resignation.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari accused the AAP government of “misusing its absolute majority” in the Assembly.

“For almost three years, development in the Capital has come to a standstill and the government has misused its absolute majority in the Vidhan Sabha to rake up controversies by bringing and approving unlawful bills,” Mr. Tiwari alleged. Questions, he claimed, had been constantly raised on the role of Speaker Ram Niwas Goel for “allowing this misuse of the Assembly”, but the news of Mr. Goel writing to the Delhi HC had “shocked all”.

“This is an attack on the relations of two pillars of democracy. According to reports, the contents of the letter were as objectionable as the language of the bills and resolutions brought in the Vidhan Sabha,” Mr. Tiwari alleged.
