Pune: Man arrested with ‘fake arms licence, revolver; had bought 50 cartridges’

Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap and nabbed the suspect from Deccan area on Thursday.

A LAND dealer was arrested by the Deccan police for allegedly being in possession of an arms licence procured against fake documents and a revolver. Police have identified the suspect as Sagar Vijay Balwadkar (29), a resident of Darpan society in Balewadi.

Sub-Inspector Rahul Kolambikar, attached to the Deccan police station, has lodged an FIR in this regard. Acting on a tip-off to Kolambikar, a police team laid a trap and nabbed Balwadkar from Deccan area around 9 pm on Thursday. During searches, police recovered an arms licence and a 0.32 mm revolver from Balwadkar. Police said the revolver has an imprint of “Field Gun Kanpur”. Meanwhile, probe revealed that the arms licence recovered from Balwadkar was procured through forged documents, with the help of one Pradip Kumar Sharma, alias Sangwan, a resident of Singapur town in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Police have booked Balwadkar, along with Sangwan, under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act. Kolambikar said, “Investigation is on to know from where Balwadkar procured the revolver. Search is on for suspect Sangwan. It is being probed how the suspects got the fake arms licence. The possibility of more persons involved in the racket cannot be ruled out. A court has remanded Balwadkar to police custody till November 10 for further investigation.”

Police told court that Balwadkar has purchased 50 cartridges, which needs to be recovered. Police also said that suspects have procured the fake gun licence from Nagaland. Police said Balwadkar was into business of land dealings and his what reason he got the fake arms licence and revolver.
