Hyderabad HC stalls work on VM Home campus

Next hearing to take place on Tuesday

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavli on Friday ruled that no trees in the land of Victoria Memorial Home shall be cut and works like levelling land and changing nature of land shall not take place till Tuesday for which day the case was listed again.

The bench was dealing with a Public interest litigation (PIL) filed by former students who submitted that the government was constructing a police commissoinearate in the orphanage property.

Endowment property

This was an endowment property given by sixth Nizam for poor students. Satyam Reddy, senior counsel appearing for the petitioners, showed photographs where trees were cut. He said by next date of hearing development works shall take place.

Lease agreement

Additional-Advocate general of Telangana Ramachandra Rao said the government had the power to enter into agreement for lease as per rules and the counter-affidavit was ready to be filed in the court. He said the main building was not being touched and nothing would be done to precipitate the matter.
