BENGALURU: An unidentified miscreant diverted the attention of a 58-year-old railway employee and made away with `53,000 cash at Kanakapura near Banashankari on Friday.A senior police officer said, “N Ramachandra, a resident of Jaraganahalli, stated in his complaint that around 1.15 pm, after withdrawing his salary from a nearby bank, he stopped near a mobile canteen for lunch, opposite a private nursing home. A man, who came on a two-wheeler, came up to him and told him that his shirt has become dirty and needs to be cleaned. Ramachandra kept his hand bag on a chair and went to clean his shirt. Upon returning, he noticed that the bag was missing and raised an alarm. The man who was around had fled the scene. Then locals helped him approach Banashankari police to file a case.”

“Somebody who noticed him at the bank must have followed him to steal the money. Also, there are no CCTV cameras in the locality,” police said. “We are verifying the details of habitual offenders who are involved in attention diversion cases. Even those who were having lunch have did not notice the vehicle number of the miscreant,” the officer added.

Speaking to Express, Ramachandra said, “I had withdrawn the money from a bank near Yediyur lake and was going to office as I was on the second shift. I was to go to a bus stop to catch a bus after lunch. I had withdrawn the money to pay the school fees of my son. “I think the miscreant only poured dirt on me to divert my attention to steal the money. An auto driver dropped me to a nearby police station and helped me file a complaint,” he added.
