The quality of a product must be established during the design phase and achieved through proper control during manufacturing rather than at the inspection and testing of final product stages, R Rajamanohar, Executive Director, BHEL Tiruchi, said on Wednesday. Consistency in product quality was vital in today’s business environment, he said, addressing a gathering of product and functional heads, representatives of participating unions, engineers and officers’ association, executives’ association and other senior officials, after inaugurating the Quality Month celebration.
Mr. Rajamanohar said the main purpose of the exercise was to raise the level of awareness and encourage development of individuals thereby ensuring prosperity for the organisation.
Mr. Rajamanohar, who is also the Executive Director of Power Plant Piping Unit Thirumayam and Piping Centre, Chennai, said establishment and adherence to systems determines betterment of results and delivering products and services with the same level of consistency and reliability.
Ensuring customer satisfaction through consistently delivering quality products in time was the only way to survive in the present competitive business environment, he said.
He called upon all employees to re-dedicate themselves to achieve excellence in quality. Quality pledges were administered to the employees on the occasion. A message from Atul Sobti, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL for the Quality Month was read out by R. Muthusamy, General Manager, Maintenance and Services.
