It takes nearly 10 minutes for pedestrians to reach Anna Salai from Race Course Road, using the existing FOB and subway

The Traffic and Transportation Forum has made a representation to the Southern Railway and the State Highways Department seeking construction of an additional foot-over bridge (FOB) connecting Anna Salai and Race Course Road in Guindy. At any time of the day, the existing FOB and the subway on Anna Salai is always crowded. During rush hour, it takes nearly 10 minutes to walk through the FOB and subway.

“There isn’t adequate space on the FOB. Also, steps must be taken to prevent mendicants from occupying the FOB and subway. The wing of the subway towards Guindy railway station and one towards the service lane of the Guindy bridge have been turned into markets,” says, V. Rama Rao, director, Traffic and Transportation Forum. A State Highways Department official says, “At the intersection of Muthu Kumaraswamy Naicker Road and Grand Southern Trunk Road in Guindy, an additional FOB is badly needed. The subway connecting the eastern and western sides of Anna Salai is jam-packed during rush hour. Earlier, there was a proposal to construct a subway at the intersection of MKN Road and GST Road. The proposal was not viable. We are now looking at the alternative of constructing a footover bridge.”
