Geographical Information System survey to improve Guntur Municipal Corporation collections

GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation commissioner Ch Anuradha launched the Geographical Information System (GIS) to conduct a survey of all properties in the 22nd ward at Mangaldas Nagar here on Friday. The GMC has been plagued by lack of authentic database of the property tax assessees for some years, even as many residential properties have turned into commercial hubs due to rapid urbanisation.
Speaking on the occasion, the GMC chief said, “The GIS-based survey is authentic, cannot be tampered with and can be updated from time to time.” The authentic database on all structures, vacant sites and community lands within the administrative control of the GMC would become a benchmark for future urban development plans.”

The survey would identify existing house number, new premises number, name of the owner, number of floors, classification of the property (RCC /Posh RCC /Tiled /A.C. sheets / Kuchha etc.), floor-wise usage of the property and usage of plot etc. Every vacant land would be assigned a unique number and every property would be captured on digital photo.The survey would help in preparation of locality plans, besides helping in planned growth of the city by dividing it into residential and commercial zones.

The survey inputs would be further digitised by using Autocad into plot boundaries, identification of main roads, internal lanes with distinguished colour coding and fixing of specific land marks for identification of important locations.Darsha Agency would execute the project in the city with the help of 50 teams. GMC additional commissioner K Ramachandra Reddy, deputy commissioner M Yesudas and other officials were also present.
