The administration of Andhra University is busy giving the final touches to the arrangements for the five-day Andhra Pradesh Science Congress, which is all set to begin on November 7.
This will be the third AP Science Congress (APSC) after the bifurcation of the state. The first science congress was jointly hosted by SV University and Sri Padmavathi University in Tirupati and the second one was jointly held by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Acharya Nagarjuna University and Krishna University in Vijayawada.
Speaking to The Hindu, AU Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Nageswara Rao said that both the AP Science Congress and the Children’s Science Congress will be held simultaneously and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on November 7.
The CM will first inaugurate the Children Science Congress at the TLN Sabha Hall at around 9 a.m. and it will be followed by the inauguration of the APSC at the convocation hall, he said.
Over 600 delegates from across the globe and about 100 senior professors and scientists are expected to attend the five-day congress.
About 60 distinguished and endowment lectures will be delivered during the Congress and a number of parallel sessions will be held.
Children’s Science Congress
Coming to the Children’s Science Congress about 150 students and 50 teachers from various schools in the State will be attending the Congress. According to the V-C, a number of senior officials such as Padma Bhushan Dr. A.V. Rama Rao, former Director of CSIR, Dr. M.N. Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Environment Sciences, Dr. Trilochan Mahapatra, D-G ICAR, Dr. G. Satish Reddy, Scientific Adviser to Minister of Defence, and Dr. Ashutosh Sharma Secretary DST, will be attending the inaugural session.
According to Prof. Nageswara Rao, the recommendations of the congress will be later submitted to the Central the State governments. It is estimated that about ₹50 lakh will be spent for hosting the APSC.
