PUNE: The bag of a doctor containing cash and valuables, totally worth over Rs1 lakh, was stolen from the footrest of her scooter near Kharadi bypass when she left it to push a handcart obstructing her vehicle.

The incident occurred near the Yes Bank on Kharadi bypass around 10.45am on Wednesday. The victim has lodged an FIR with Chandannagar police.

Neurologist Geetanjali Ingle (36) from Kharadi told TOI on Thursday, "I visited the bank to deposit Rs1 lakh and parked the scooter 50 metres away. The bank officials did not accept the cash as the server was down. I walked out and kept the bag on the footrest of my scooter. I was not in a position to ride the vehicle as it was blocked by a handcart."

She added, "I pushed the handcart and cleared the way for the scooter. When I returned, I did not find the bag on the footrest. I searched for it but in vain. When I enquired about the bag with a security guard standing nearby, the latter was clueless."

"There were three debit cards, two smartphones, bank passbook and some important documents in the bag. I visited the bank again and checked the CCTV camera footage, but it did not capture the incident. Then I got the cards blocked and lodged an FIR under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code," the doctor said.

Sub-inspector Rajeshwarsinh Rajput of Chandannagar police said, "We suspect the involvement of minor boys. We are working on certain clues and hope to detect the case at the earliest."
