The incessant rain in the the last three days has resulted in landslips on the second ghat road leading to Tirumala.
Vehicular traffic was temporarily disrupted on Thursday when boulders from a cliff crashed down at Dova Bhasakarla Sannidhi on the second ghat road, about one kilometre from here. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Traffic was restored after the TTD engineering personnel cleared the debris.
The TTD has taken up pitching of the retaining walls and also adopted the technique of short crafting — the process of providing a strong layer of concrete over a steel mesh along with steel rods grilled deep on the vertical slopes of the mountains — to arrest the erosion of soil at the same vulnerable point more than a decade ago. But the continuous drizzling it is believed has washed away the soil beneath the boulders in the adjacent areas leading to the landslips.
